The Thomas Meagher whose grandson contributed the test result died tragically in Pittsburgh in 1903. The evidence connecting this Thomas to the descendants of Patrick Meagher is compelling, but not beyond all doubt. It is hoped that additional test results will prove the connection.

Patrick Meagher born about 1800.

Patrick married Nancy Deare and raised his family in the townland of Clonganhue (52 34 N 8 11 W) in the parish of Cappawhite. This area is in west central Tipperary, near the Limerick border, about 10 kilometers north of Tipperary Town.

The five sons of Patrick, born in Clonganhue between 1820 and 1837:

  1. Patrick
  2. Thomas
  3. Michael
  4. James
  5. Cornelius

The Tipperary Heritage Unit could not find a baptismal record for James. Later documents in Ohio support James as a fifth brother.

By 1860, three of the brothers (Patrick, Thomas and James) were living in Mineral Point (later Mineral City), about 10 miles south of Massillon, Ohio. Patrick appears to have had no children. The other two brothers had four sons each.

The four sons of Thomas, born in Tuscarawas Co. (Mineral City):

  1. James Andrew, b. 1857, d. Michigan
  2. Joseph Patrick, b. 1859, d. California
  3. Thomas Solomon, b. 1866
  4. George Washington, b. 1872, d. Chicago

The four sons of James, born in Tuscarawas Co. (Mineral City) or in Stark Co. (Massillon):

  1. Patrick, b. 1862, d. 1936, Mineral City
  2. Thomas, b. abt. 1866, d. 1903, Pittsburgh
